Gold Top
150 × 100 cm
Newspaper collage with acrylic paint details
2023
Created during Black Breastfeeding Awareness Week (UK), Gold Top reflects on the histories that shape how Black motherhood and nourishment are seen today. A large anatomical breast, layered in newspaper and acrylic, becomes a site of both tenderness and protest — questioning who is supported, celebrated, or left unseen in the act of feeding.
The phrase “it’s all you need” written across the nipple reclaims nurture as power, connection, and survival. Gold Top speaks to the enduring disparities in care and visibility, while honouring the strength and continuity of Black maternal love.
